What is Closed Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy?
Closed Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy is a gentle, therapist-led method of colon cleansing that prioritises comfort, safety, cellular hydration, and whole-body support.
Unlike traditional colonics, which are often fast, forceful, and focused purely on elimination, the Rojas technique uses a slow, responsive fill-and-release approach designed to work with the body, not against it. At Bottoms Up Colonics, our priority is to support the body’s natural rhythm, gently hydrating the colon and body to promote deep release, detoxification, and enhanced absorption of water and nutrients.
We exclusively use a closed system, meaning that both water and waste flow discreetly through tubing and directly down the drain. There’s no exposure, no odour, and no mess. Clients lie comfortably on a treatment table, completely covered with a privacy sheet, while a trained and certified therapist remains present throughout the entire session. Your therapist gently guides the process, monitors your responses, and ensures you feel supported every step of the way.
A small, single-use speculum is gently inserted into the rectum, and triple-filtered, structured water is introduced and released in carefully guided cycles. This deeply respectful and professional approach allows the body to feel safe, relaxed, and open to release, physically, and sometimes emotionally.
Our therapists are extensively trained and certified in the Rojas method, equipping them to safely and effectively deliver Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy while also supporting digestive function, identifying potential imbalances, and offering personalised guidance that helps clients move toward lasting health and vitality.
The Rojas Technique is Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy redefined. Therapist-led, hydration-focused, and rooted in whole-body healing and restoration, our Rojas technique offers a gentle, modern approach that honours the body's natural rhythms. Restoring balance, vitality, and deep inner connection from the inside out.

Gentle, Slow, and Never Forceful
Unlike traditional colonics that can feel fast, hard, or uncomfortable, Roja’s Method uses a hydration-focused, slow approach to encourage natural elimination. Every movement is guided with care to ensure a gentle & safe colonic experience.
Beyond Simple Elimination
While waste removal is part of the session, our focus is on restoring balance and supporting digestive function. Roja’s Method helps improve motility and encourages the body’s natural ability to rehydrate and detoxify at a cellular level. Our sessions include a chamomile infusion & end with another probiotic infusion to restore balance.
A Full-Body, Supported Experience
This technique gently supports the digestive, microbial, lymphatic, nervous, and emotional systems. Many clients report a lasting sense of lightness, clarity, and calm, often releasing tension that’s been held in the body for years.
Delivered by a highly trained colonic therapist on the Gold Coast, Roja’s Method provides a unique, client-centered experience that prioritises comfort, safety, and overall wellbeing.
Hydration
Unlike traditional colonics, we’re not hosing the water in hard and fast. Instead, at Bottoms Up Colonics, we use a slow and gentle fill method called the Rojas technique. This process optimises and enhances the absorption of water from the bowel through our mesenteric venous system. This results in incredible, cellular hydration of the bowel and the whole body! Hello, energy, clarity, improved blood circulation, anti-aging and way more!
In addition to our Rojas technique, our water at Bottoms Up Colonics in Runaway Bay is triple-filtered and structured. Structured water still has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen molecule (H2O). The arrangement of these atoms is in a slightly different configuration which means the water becomes ‘charged.’ Structured water can deliver electromagnetic energy straight to your mitochondria – the energy powerhouse of your cells. Structured water has been shown to optimise hydration, enhance energy production, slow down the aging process and decrease inflammation.
Without hydration, the body cannot heal and restore balance. Enhanced cellular hydration to create radical wellbeing is our vision for the future!
Why Structured Water is Superior in Colonics
Structured water, sometimes called “hexagonal water,” is water that has been naturally aligned at a molecular level, making it more easily absorbed by the body. In Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy, we use structured water for several reasons such as...
Enhanced Hydration
Structured water penetrates tissues more efficiently, helping to replenish cellular hydration during the colonic session.
Optimized Cellular Function
By supporting hydration at the cellular level, structured water may enhance the body’s natural detoxification and metabolic processes
Gentle & Supportive
Its naturally aligned structure allows for a slower, smoother flow, reducing discomfort and creating a more gentle & safe colonic experience.
Synergistic with Rojas Method
Combined with our slow, therapist-led, closed-system approach, structured water helps the colon respond naturally, enhancing lymphatic flow, microbial balance, and overall well-being.
Unlike conventional colonics that may use regular tap or filtered water, structured water supports the body’s natural rhythms, making your session not just about elimination, butfull-body restoration and hydration.

Frequently Asked Questions
At Bottoms Up Colonics, we specialise in ‘closed’ colonics. This means you are guided and supported by a qualified colon hydrotherapist throughout our session. A small speculum is gently inserted into the bottom and high-quality, triple-filtered, structured water slowly circulates in and out of the large intestine. All faecal matter and gas that comes away travels through tubing and into a device that is plumbed into the waste system. There is no mess or smell.
This is very different to what is known as ‘open colonics’, where you are in the room by yourself, pooping into a purpose-built bed that relies on the integrity of the colon to hold and release.
Unlike traditional colonics, we use a slow and gentle fill-and-release method called Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy, a technique refined by Bottoms Up Colonics founder, Suzy Wilson, after working, training and teaching in the field of colon hydrotherapy for more than twenty years. Not only are our Rojas colonics more comfortable and support the removal of waste, toxins and pathogenic material from the body, but we also focus on enhanced cellular hydration for optimal wellbeing and balance within the body (without hydration, the body cannot heal).
During a session of Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy, your therapist guides you every step of the way. Your belly is very much taken care of, from soothing oil to a snuggly heat pack and a gentle belly massage, when needed. Your therapist will also discuss with you what is seen coming out of the tube on the big screen – helping you to piece together your unique health map.
Absolutely. Enhancing fertility involves creating an optimal internal environment. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy not only supports bowel health but also promotes overall wellbeing. By focusing on detoxification, re-establishing a healthy gut microbiome and enhancing cellular hydration, this therapy addresses key factors that influence fertility. By eliminating accumulated toxins and waste, it creates an optimal internal environment conducive to conception.
Understanding Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy
Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy is a specialised form of colon cleansing that aims to remove accumulated toxins and waste from the colon whilst supporting the whole body on a cellular level. This process not only promotes digestive health but also has systemic benefits that can positively impact reproductive health.
For successful conception, the body must feel secure and well-prepared. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy contributes to this by:
- Detoxification of residual hormones and toxins
- Hormonal balance: Accumulated toxins and residual hormones in the body can disrupt the endocrine system, leading to hormonal imbalances that may affect ovulation and sperm quality. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy assists in eliminating these unwanted substances, supporting the body’s natural hormonal regulation.
- Enhanced nutrient absorption
- Nutrient uptake: A colon burdened with waste can impede the absorption of essential nutrients necessary for reproductive health. By cleansing the colon, Rojas colonics facilitates more efficient nutrient uptake, ensuring that vital vitamins and minerals are available to support conception and a healthy pregnancy.
- Re-establishing a healthy gut microbiome
- Microbiome Balance: The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in digestion, immunity and overall health. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy can help remove harmful bacteria and create an environment conducive to the growth of beneficial microbes. A balanced microbiome supports nutrient synthesis and reduces inflammation, both are vital for fertility.
- Improved cellular hydration
- Hydration and cell function: Proper hydration at the cellular level is essential for metabolic processes including those involved in reproduction. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy can enhance cellular hydration allowing cells to function optimally. Well-hydrated cells support energy production, hormone transport and overall reproductive health.
A collaborative approach for couples
Fertility is a shared journey. Both partners can benefit from detoxification, a balanced microbiome and improved cellular hydration, setting the stage for a healthy conception. Engaging in Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy together fosters mutual wellbeing and prepares both bodies for the demands of parenthood.
By addressing underlying health issues and promoting a balanced internal environment, this therapy supports both partners in their quest to start a family.
A common misconception of Colon Hydrotherapy is that we’re ‘wiping out’ or sterilising the bowel. This is not the case. At Bottoms Up Colonics we understand the absolute necessity of a healthy, diverse and robust microbiome for optimal health. Dead cells and bacteria are always being sloughed off and removed from the body, every moment of the day.
In fact, up to two-thirds of your bowel movements are actually dead and discarded bacteria. As the bowel is a detoxification pathway, during a session of Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy, not only are we supporting the removal of faecal matter but we’re also aiding the elimination of yeast and bacterial overgrowths, toxins, pathobionts (opportunistic bacteria and their waste by-products), mucoid plaque, biofilm and possibly pathogens.
Much like weeding your garden, or taking out the rubbish, we too need to empty our internal garbage – which has shown to cause a plethora of digestive and other health complications. Including gut dysbiosis, auto-immune conditions, mood disorders, diminished energy and vitality, congested detox pathways, inflammation and so much more. At Bottoms Up Colonics we work to create a healthy inner terrain so you and your good bacteria can thrive!
The only thing we share at Bottoms Up Colonics is conversation! We pride ourselves on high-quality client care and exceptional hygiene standards. Speculums are single-use, disposable, BPA free and TGA approved. All surfaces are meticulously cleaned after each client. Our toilets are also spotless.

Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy is not a painful process but it can feel strange at first, even funny (it’s not unusual to have a laugh) and occasionally a little uncomfortable. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong. Sometimes, we can have moments of cramping when the body is ready to eliminate waste or gas (through the tube). This may feel like period pain or poo pain. These sensations don’t last long and you will feel secure throughout as your therapist is supporting you every step of the way.
You’ll feel a small amount of pressure (not pain) when the speculum is being inserted into the bottom. No force is applied here. The speculum simply sits in the rectum and does not go up into the bowel.
During a Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy session, your therapist allows a gentle flow of water to move in and out of the bottom. A slow fill, followed by a release, then repeat. As the belly starts to fill, it will feel like you need to poop (which can be unusual at first) but you don’t need to hold on or bear down, your job is to relax and let the therapist, water and tubing do all the work for you.
Your therapist is constantly monitoring how and what you’re feeling, the flow of the water and the pressure gauge to ensure you’re comfortable. Many factors influence a session of Colon Hydrotherapy including your level of hydration, what you’ve eaten, when you’ve eaten, current symptoms, length of the bowel etc. Your therapist will tailor your session to your specific needs. Which will change as your journey with us progresses.
Digestive upset including constipation and bloating is by nature uncomfortable. When working with a heavily congested bowel for example, discomfort may occur. Your therapist will support you through these sensations by gently massaging your belly.
Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy is more comfortable than traditional colonics because we focus on hydration to encourage elimination rather than forcing the body to eliminate. There are many benefits to this method including:
• enhanced cellular hydration (of the whole body, not just the bowel)
• increased soaking of the hardened build-ups, blockages, plaque and congestion that is commonly and unknowingly hiding in the bowel
• our focus on nervous system health, meaning when you’re more relaxed you’re better able to release.
It’s common to feel a little nervous before your first colonic. After all, poop and bottoms are so taboo. It’s also human nature to fear the unknown. Our therapists understand these emotions well (they were probably nervous before their first session) and are here to guide you every step of the way. It doesn’t take long before you feel comfortable, relaxed and at ease, often chatting and laughing with your therapist.
Once nerves have settled, the most common thing we hear is, ‘I should have done this years ago’.
Poop moves away from the body through the tubing so there is no waste, mess or smell.
During insertion of the speculum, the privacy sheet is moved away ever so slightly before you’re positioned comfortably on your back, always covered. It can be scary to think that someone will look at your bottom. But to us professionals at Bottoms Up, this is no different than a doctor examining your ear. Bottoms come in all different colours, shapes, and sizes – some with hair, some with pimples and some with dimples. Haemorrhoids are very common. None of these things are anything you should be embarrassed about. It’s just a bum, we all have one!
Your colon, also called the large intestine, is a muscle that naturally and automatically expands and contracts. This movement is called peristalsis and it’s how the contents of your digestive tract move through this intricate tubing system, all the way from mouth to bottom. During a session of Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy, the bowel does not expand beyond its capacity. Your therapist is always monitoring water flow, pressure and your comfort level.
Just like any muscle, if we don’t use it, we lose it. If we’re not eliminating well, completely and daily, over time the bowel can become weak and sluggish leading to constipation, impaction and faecal loading. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy supports the elimination of built-up matter through the process of hydration. As the contents of the bowel become hydrated and soft, we’re able to clear this pathway. This clearing encourages the promotion of peristalsis so the bowel can regain its strength. Think bicep curls for your bowel.
As therapists, we use a combination of Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy, oral hydration, supplements, dietary guidance, movement and lifestyle advice to help you achieve complete and satisfying bowel movements on your own! Without any reliance or dependence on us or stimulants. A healthy bowel is a strong bowel!
The speculum is only inserted into the rectum and isn’t inserted into your bowel. Therefore, there is no risk of perforating the bowel wall.
There is a lot of confusion about these different terms. Here’s a short explanation of each.
• Enema
This is where you fill an enema bag with water and herbs or coffee and self-insert a small tube into your rectal area while lying on your back or side. You leave this liquid in your sigmoid colon area until you feel the urge to evacuate on the toilet.
• Colema board
Similar to the enema, but with the addition of a board that is purpose built that puts you in a position of buttocks higher than the shoulders. Sometimes placed over a bath or toilet.
• Colon lavage
A medical procedure undertaken in a hospital where the Doctor inserts liquid into the bowl from the cecum area to wash out the large colon.
Yes! Even though you may have only heard about this strange therapy recently, colon hydrotherapy isn’t new. In fact, it’s been around for approximately 2000 years.
Bottoms Up Colonics was born twenty years ago by Suzy Wilson. This was well before we knew about the gut-brain connection, cellular memory and the effects of microbiome on mood, mental health, immune function, and the nervous system. After witnessing and experiencing the life-changing healing benefits of colon hydrotherapy, Suzy Wilson was led on a journey to discover more about this incredible modality and share colonics with the world.
During this time, she has performed thousands of colonics and has taught hundreds of people the art of our internationally certified Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy.
All therapists with Bottoms Up Colonics are internationally trained and certified. We abide by strict standards of care and clinical practice guidelines to ensure safety and optimal client care.
Haemorrhoids are a pain in the butt – literally! Haemorrhoids are lumps (enlarged veins) found in and around the anus. People can be very embarrassed by their haemorrhoids but in truth, they’re very common and nothing to be ashamed about. Some people don’t even realise they have them.
When inflamed, haemorrhoids can be swollen, painful and cause bleeding (leaving bright red blood on the tissue after wiping). Haemorrhoids are often caused by constipation and straining. They can be an outcome of pregnancy, being overweight, ongoing diarrhea, and prolonged heavy lifting.
Haemorrhoids usually go away on their own once the cause is removed or resolved. However, if you notice recurring blood in your stool, it’s always important to consult your doctor.
People with haemorrhoids commonly and comfortably receive colonics however, if your haemorrhoids are active, meaning they are currently swollen, painful, inflamed or bleeding, we recommend waiting until the discomfort and sensitivity has settled.
As always, the speculum is inserted slowly and gently to avoid discomfort.

When we think of colonics, our imagination can run wild. We imagine making a big mess, pooping on the table and stinking out the room. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Bottoms Up Colonics Rojas colonics are safe, sanitary, contained, and very discrete.
Each session of colon hydrotherapy can vary from person to person and session to session. Sometimes you’ll have a big release through the tube, other times not so much as this depends on hydration, build up, blockages etc. Whatever is not released during your colonic can be eliminated on the toilet at the end of your session.
All matter and gas that comes away travels through tubing and into a device that is plumbed into the waste system. There is no mess or smell.
After your colonic, your therapist will instruct you to sit on the toilet, elevate your feet on the squatty-potty to open the bowel pathway and encourage you to take your time emptying your bowel. You may release liquid, solid matter and gas. It could be a lot, or not so much.
At Bottoms Up Colonics, enhanced cellular hydration to create radical wellbeing is our vision for the future! Our water is not only filtered, it’s triple filtered, so there’s no nasty agents or chemicals. Many of our clinics also use structured (energised) water. Structured water has been shown to optimise hydration, enhance energy production, slow down the aging process, and decrease inflammation.
As answered above, Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy is very safe. Your therapist will guide and monitor you every step of the way. Prior to your first session of Colon Hydrotherapy, your therapist will sit with you and discuss your health history while ruling out any areas of concern. In the event of a contraindication (as detailed above), a colonic will not be performed.
One of the biggest misconceptions about colonics is that when someone comes in for their very first session we’re going to dive deep into the bowel and remove all of the poop that’s been building up forever. But that’s not really how it works…
In fact, the more constipated and impacted you are, the less likely it is that you’ll release much during your first session. But don’t lose hope!
There are several reasons for constipation including stress, microbial imbalance and certain medications. But the biggest cause is dehydration.
Most people think that when we drink water we absorb it straight away. In fact, the majority of the water you ingest is absorbed from the bowel (just before you’d poop it out). When we are working with a dehydrated bowel and body (and so often we are) we first have to hydrate before we can get anything moving. This is why at Bottoms Up Colonics our Rojas technique focuses on whole-body, bowel, and cellular hydration.
Imagine, a pot plant that you’ve forgotten to water. When you first try to bring it back to life, you notice the soil is so dehydrated, that the water just beads off it. However, if you persist, the soil will soon start to soften as it absorbs the water.
Your poop is exactly the same!
Before we can empty a belly full of poop, we first have to hydrate your bowel. This way, your poop is soft enough and small enough to come out! Otherwise, old, hardened, wide, dry, and dehydrated poop acts like a concrete plug in your bowel. If you’ve ever been constipated, you know how hard this is to pass.
Through the process of hydration and a series of colonics, we’re able to water your forgotten pot plant and encourage the body to eliminate all the build-ups, blockages and congestion that’s been stored in your belly. This is why hydration is so important. And why, at Bottoms Up Colonics our vision for the future is enhanced cellular hydration to create radical wellbeing!
Unfortunately, colonics are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance in Australia. While some health funds may provide limited coverage for certain natural therapies, colon hydrotherapy is not included under these policies.
However, we’re committed to making our services as accessible as possible to everyone. To help reduce costs, we offer a range of packages and programs with discounts on multiple sessions, making treatments more affordable while supporting your long-term health goals.
If you have any questions about payment options or would like to learn more about our packages, feel free to reach out!
Yes, you can absolutely have a colonic while on your period. Since the speculum is inserted rectally, it won’t interfere with your flow. In fact, many clients find it helps relieve bloating and discomfort.
If you’re experiencing significant cramps, you may prefer to wait until after your period, but the choice is entirely yours. You’re welcome to wear a tampon or menstrual cup during the session, though it’s not required.
Our therapists are experienced in making you feel comfortable and supported. If you have any concerns, feel free to discuss them with us – we’re here to ensure that your experience is positive and tailored to your needs.
Everyone’s experience with Colon Hydrotherapy is unique and different. Some clients may have mild, short-lived symptoms as the body detoxifies. These can include fatigue, bloating or temporary skin or digestive flare-ups. These are signs that your body is eliminating toxins and restoring balance.
Rest assured, your personalised treatment plan has been specifically tailored to your condition and needs with the goal of supporting your body’s natural healing processes. Rojas Colon Hydrotherapy is designed to improve digestion, reduce toxicity and promote overall wellness. As your body adjusts, any discomfort should subside, leading to long-term benefits.
